XM-13 stainless steel (PH13-8Mo)

XM-13 stainless steel is a stainless steel material with excellent performance, which is a high-purity martensitic age-hardening stainless steel smelted by double vacuum process. The standard steel grade of PH13-8Mo in the American standard is XM-13 (UNS S13800). The outstanding characteristics of PH13-8Mo steel are that, in addition to high strength, it also has excellent fracture toughness, good transverse mechanical properties and stress corrosion resistance in the marine environment. Although under harsh test conditions, PH13-8Mo steel is somewhat sensitive to hydrogen embrittlement when aged at various temperatures below 565°C, hydrogen embrittlement cracking accidents are rarely seen in actual use. When aged at temperatures above 595°C, it is immune to hydrogen-induced cracking. In addition, when aged at 595°C or above this temperature, this steel has the best resistance to sulfide stress corrosion cracking.

Performance characteristics:

High strength: After appropriate heat treatment, the tensile strength is much higher than that of other common stainless steel materials, reaching up to 653MPa, and the yield strength is 276MPa. It has good strength performance in the fully hardened state.

Good toughness: It can still maintain good toughness even in a low-temperature environment, enabling it to be widely used in harsh environments.

Physical properties:

Density: The density is approximately 7.8g/cm³.

Melting point: Approximately 1400-1450°C.

Thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity is 0.47W/(m・K) at 0-100°C, within the range of 15-20W/(m・K).

Coefficient of linear expansion: Approximately 14.6μm/m・°C.

Corrosion resistance:

Strong resistance to corrosive media: It has excellent corrosion resistance to high-concentration chlorides, sulfates and corrosive chemicals, and performs excellently in acidic solutions, chloride environments, brine, as well as in environments with highly corrosive alkyl acid chlorides, nitrate compounds and chlorides.

Resistance to high and low temperature corrosion: It can still maintain good corrosion resistance in high-temperature and high-pressure environments with corrosive media, and can maintain good corrosion resistance for a long time in marine environments and the chemical industry.

Wear resistance: Due to the presence of high-hardness nitrides and carbides, it has good wear resistance and has a long service life in some environments requiring organic acids, organic solvents or acidic conditions.
