Introduction to the Main Properties of CUSTOM 465 Stainless Steel:

Custom 465 stainless steel is the steel grade with the best combination of strength and fracture toughness among the precipitation hardening (PH) stainless steels available on the market today. It is used for aircraft structural components, such as engine fittings, aircraft flap tracks, actuators, landing gear components, and similar parts.

It is commonly used for heat-treated components that require stress corrosion resistance, and it has high strength and high toughness at temperatures up to 800°F (427°C). It has good transverse ductility and strength, but it is not limited to these applications. UNS S46500 is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel, and this steel grade has excellent comprehensive properties such as extremely high strength, excellent toughness, and corrosion resistance.

Custom 465 was first used in the aviation industry in 1997. Since then, it has been widely used for aircraft structural components, such as engine fittings, aircraft flap tracks, actuators, landing gear components, and similar parts.

Due to the unique and excellent mechanical properties and comprehensive corrosion resistance of this alloy, it is also used in the manufacturing of medical devices and has achieved wide and good applications.

When manufacturing surgical tools, the excellent fracture and impact toughness of the alloy is crucial. Under the condition of the same material strength, Custom 465 has twice the impact toughness of other commonly used medical precipitation hardening stainless steels, such as 455 and 17-4 alloys.

Its strength can reach 1820 MPa in the peak aging (H900) state, and it still has excellent notch strength and fracture toughness. It still has high strength under long-term thermal exposure, and its corrosion resistance is similar to that of AISI 304 steel. The dimensional change caused by heat treatment is relatively small, and it can be cold-worked in the solution treatment and different machining states.
